Toluca Lake is a small community with outsized allure, thanks to its friendly character, many great coffee shops, bars, and restaurants, and close proximity to amazing hiking, cycling, and outdoor recreational areas. Plus only a 30-minute commute into downtown Los Angeles.

With its good public schools, incredible views of the Santa Monica Mountains, and vibrant social scene, Toluca Lake is one of the most happening places in the Valley. It is situated just north of L.A. and just far enough into the San Fernando Valley to offer a peaceful refuge from the big city life.

Places of interest in and around Toluca Lake include Warner Brothers, Walt Disney, and Universal Studios; the L.A. Equestrian Center; the ultra-prestigious Lakeside Golf Club; and world-famous Griffith Park. Take the kids to the Travel Town Railroad Museum, have breakfast at the original IHOP (the first ever launched), and grab lunch at the oldest remaining Bob’s Big Boy restaurant – also in Toluca Lake. Or delve into local history while getting out into nature.

Around the same time that the United States won independence from British rule, an adobe dwelling was constructed close to Toluca Lake. The lake has been fed since ancient times by a constantly flowing spring. By the early 1920s, Toluca Lake had evolved into an important agricultural community, with walnut groves and fruit orchards. One of the first suburban properties constructed in a planned development in Toluca Lake was an expansive home on Valley Spring Lane that soon became the residence of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. Bette Davis also lived in Toluca Lake in a grand English Tudor home just around the corner from Warner Brothers – which continues to attract movie and TV executives and stars to live here.
